Financial Projections

A thorough set of financial projections is an essential part of any business plan. By projecting revenue and expenses over time, you are forced to apply critical thinking to your business model at a practical level: i.e., where is the money coming from, how do you spend it, and how much is left over as profit.

Business Plans Northwest offers the service of creating financial projections for your startup or early-stage company. Your custom projections are built as a set of Excel spreadsheets “from the bottom up,”  based on key information you supply about your business.

All assumptions are explicitly documented, which makes it easy for you to perform “what-if” scenarios with the data in the spreadsheets, and for an investor to review the basis of your projections during the due diligence process.

A complete set of financial projections may include the following  components:

  • Month-by-month profit and loss (P&L) statements for up to five years
  • Month-by-month cash flow projections for up to five years
  • Year-by-year summary of P&L statement, including end-of-year balance sheets
  • Unit revenue model, including cost-of-goods-sold and gross profit, for each product or service
  • Revenue projections based on expected results from marketing budget
  • Detailed sales and marketing expenses
  • Detailed general and administrative expenses
  • Detailed projection of headcount, salaries, and payroll benefits and expenses
  • Estimate of market size
