Business Plan Package

A complete business plan package includes several documents describing your company, each of which has a specific function in moving your company along the path to funding. These include:

  • The Executive Summary is a brief overview, usually no more than two pages of text, designed to stimulate an investor to seek more details from you. This is the key marketing document for attracting interest in your company. The executive summary may be in the form of a narrative that tells the story of your business or in the form of a summary of pertinent facts about the company.
  • The Financial Model is a set of spreadsheets that spells out the detailed metrics of your business model, including projected revenue, expenses, and cash flow. It may also include a balance sheet if your company has significant operational history. Summary points from the financial model are included in the other documents. This is the key analytical document for evaluating the potential profitability and growth of the company.
  • The Business Plan is a text document, ideally no more than 20 pages in length, that provides enough information so that a potential investor may scrutinize the merits of all aspects of your business. (This is part of the process called "due diligence.") It is the key detail document, with the appropriate amount of content that makes it neither too short nor too long. The business plan, which may also include diagrams and photographs as necessary, should cover the following main topics:
  • Market need and opportunity
  • Product or service offering
  • Revenue model and operating plan
  • Sales & marketing strategies and plans
  • Competition, barriers to market entry by others
  • Management team qualifications and experience
  • Financial summary, use of funds, and exit strategies
  • The Investor Presentation is a set of slides that serve as talking points when you have a formal meeting with an investor to "pitch" your company. This is the key sales document of the process, and it is critical that the structure and content of the slides properly support your verbal presentation. A set of between 10 and 15 slides (either in PowerPoint or HTML format) is usually enough to do the job. You may also want to have specific additional slides to show in response to tough questions you anticipate investors might ask.

As a client of Business Plans Northwest, you receive solid, well-crafted business plan documents that meet and exceed the current standards in the investment community. Equally important, you receive experienced, strategic advice about your business model and how to position your plan for maximum acceptance by investors.

Consulting Services

All of our business plan documents are original and customized to suit the needs of your business and to position your company for target investors. We do not use business plan programs or "canned" templates. (Such boilerplate documents are easily recognized by investors and usually merit far less attention than a custom-crafted business plan.)

Scope of Work -- After an initial consultation by phone or in person, we will submit a proposal to you that spells out the specific work deliverables -- either a complete business plan package or the individual components per your requirements.

Schedule -- A complete business plan package generally takes between four and six weeks from start to finish. Many factors may affect the actual schedule, which is negotiated as part of the proposal and agreement processes.

Fees -- Our fees are based on the specific scope of work and schedule we propose. We will provide you with a range of estimated fees during the initial consultation and with a firm quote in the written proposal. We generally work on a flat fee basis, with the first half payment due at the beginning of the project and second half payment due upon completion.

Agreement -- We use a standard contract agreement, signed by both parties, that spells out the details of our relationship as "contractor" and "client," including terms protecting the confidentiality of information and materials you provide.

If you would like to discuss our consulting services, please contact us.

"Thanks, Bryan, for taking my rough ideas and delivering a clear, well-crafted business plan that is both understandable and compelling. Your help in realigning the revenue model has given me the credibility I need to confidently represent my company to potential corporate partners and investors. I also appreciate your providing industry contacts, who proved critical for validating the core value proposition."
